To Our Favorite People
If you have found your way to this page, it is because you long ago found your way into our hearts. Of all the people in the world, you are the ones we call ours. We are so grateful for you, and we cannot wait to wrap our arms around you in Maui.
Why Maui, and why three days? Because we love you, and one night was never going to be enough.
Maui is one of the most beautiful places on earth, but that is not why we chose it. Kristen’s mother, Joan, always dreamed of visiting Hawaii. It was a trip she was promised, one that never came true. But Joan loved the ocean, and though she has been gone for 25 years, the water has always been where Kristen feels her closest. So when it came time to choose where we would begin our life together, the answer was already written. We are getting married beside the water she longed to see, and in doing so, we are keeping that promise for her. We like to think she will have the best seat in the house.
As for the three days, that was intentional too. Weddings have a way of flying by. You blink, and the night is over, and you realize you got seven minutes with each person you love. We wanted more than that. We wanted mornings and evenings. We wanted long dinners, sandy feet, unhurried conversations, and time to actually be together.
So we are stretching this celebration out, and we hope you will settle in and stay a while. Keeping this wedding small and intimate mattered to us more than anything.
We have both been lucky to live full lives, as siblings, as parents, as athletes, as colleagues, and as friends. And yes, one of us spent three Olympics proving you can move fast without ever technically running. He promises to walk, not run, down the aisle.
Every one of you has been part of the story that brought us here. And as we step into this next chapter as one, you are the people we cannot wait to celebrate with, hold dear, and grow old alongside. These three days are our small way of saying thank you for the unconditional support, love, and joy you bring into our lives.
We once heard a saying that stuck with us: “There are only two times in your life when all your favorite people will be in the same room, your wedding and your funeral. You will only be at one of them.” We figured we should truly savor the one we get to be present for.
So come to Maui. Feel the sun, get in the ocean, laugh too loud, stay up too late. Our arms are already open. Everything you need for the weekend is below, with more details to come with the formal invitation.
